While Selbrigg pond today can be considered a haven for wildlife, or the place for a picnic, or for the more high tech a place for geocaching this was not always the case.

The ownership of the farm, pond and associated woodland was purchased by my grandfather, Jack Bainbridge, in 1946. He had intended to retire here, but his plans changed. I, Francis Feilden, inherited the area in 1990, moving to live here in 2008.
My father, Bernard Feilden, lost his left eye in a shooting accident in the field north of the pond. This was a sobering lesson yet did not prevent him becoming a leading international conservation architect.
